Our Story
Calgary is home to thousands of fruit trees — apple, cherry, plum, pear, and more. Every year, millions of pounds of perfectly good fruit falls to the ground and goes to waste, while families across the city struggle to afford fresh produce.
Calgary Harvest was born from a simple idea: what if we could connect the people who have too much fruit with the people who have too little? What started as a few neighbours helping each other has grown into a city-wide movement of tree owners, volunteer pickers, and community partners.
Our Mission
We rescue urban fruit that would otherwise go to waste and share it with the community. Every harvest is split three ways:
Tree Owner
One-third goes back to the homeowner as a thank-you for sharing their tree.
Volunteer Pickers
One-third is shared among the volunteers who made the harvest happen.
Community
One-third is donated to local food banks, shelters, and community kitchens.
Our Values
We believe in reducing food waste, strengthening neighbourhoods, and making fresh food accessible to everyone. Every apple picked is an apple saved from the landfill and a gift to someone who needs it.
